We have a course on the Camping side of the site, perfect for beginners, the small posts are all located just off pathways and so makes it an ideal starter course. And there is no need to use a compass. The second course, on the Training Side of the Site, is a bit more difficult. The small posts are still used but over wider and more rugged terrain. It’s a bit more taxing on the legs and a bit more difficult for map reading. The third type of orienteering is off site at Barlaston Downs Banks. The orienteering course is available for use by the public, and is not available during May, June or July due to ground nesting birds. The course does not make compass reading essential but it makes the course more challenging and more skilful with their use. The Downs Banks are approximately 1 and a half miles from the site and makes a good walk there, and activity and a walk back. A budget afternoon activity ideal for longer events. |
